Apart from the fact that no one wants to swim in dirty water, hygiene is also essential from a microbiological perspective. An unmaintained pool is a breeding ground for many bacteria, viruses, and fungi that can affect your health. This can result in serious skin rashes or stomach upsets. A suitable pH level in the water is also essential for the skin. If the water is too acidic or too alkaline, it can quickly become harmful and unhealthy. The following points should be checked regularly:

Daily

• Remove leaves, pollen, and other debris floating on the surface. You can do this quickly with a net.
  
• Inspect the pool water: Check whether the pool water has changed. Are there algae or limescale deposits?
  
• Empty the skimmer basket: Everything that does not belong in the water collects in the skimmer basket. Empty it daily and rinse it out if necessary
  

Weekly

• Check the pH level: The pH level should not be too acidic or too alkaline. For chlorinated water, a value between 7.0 and 7.4 is optimal. With products such as "PH-Plus" or "PH-Minus", you can easily adjust the level up or down.
  
• Clean the pool: The floor, walls, and waterline of the pool should be regularly cleared of dirt. For this, you can use a pool vacuum or a pool brush on a telescopic pole.
  
• Backwash the filter: Rinse the filter once a week. This not only cleans the filter, but also brings fresh water into the pool. This has a positive effect on the water quality.
  
• Add algaecide to the pool: To prevent unsightly and harmful algae, regularly add algaecide to the water
  

As needed

• Clean the pool edge: If the pool edge is dirty, it should be cleaned with a brush. This also makes it less slippery and minimizes the risk of injury. 
  
• Pool cover: Once or twice a year, ideally just before and just after the start of the swimming season, you should clean the pool cover.
  
• Clean the heat pump: If you have a heat pump, clean it regularly. The fins must not be dirty
